Reading 2005

A few highlights from the Reading Festival.
Eddie Temple Morris is the Saviour of Dance music. (Or at least the Saviour of Indy Disco). Even if he was playing the monsterstly over-sponsored Bacardi Bar. All is forgiven. Literally the best DJ set Ive seen in about 8 years, with post GCSE kids discovering you can dance to indy music. Genius!
The lead singer of Sons & Daughters has developed some fantastic Kate Bush style moves. Very Loud and very very good.
A band called Longcut make good use of a drum machine (always underused) with a drummer who splits his time between singing/drum machining and real drumming. Their guitarist uses a drum stick to make some good noises. Again very loud.
Also on the stranger side of things was Hot Chip who look like a sort of Pub Band Kraftwerk. Four keyboards and a guitar.
‘The Kids’ ™ were going mad for Foo Fighters who put in a good one, but there’s no need for a branded iPod Cover is there? [no link sorry].
Nicola discovered Punk Rock Karaoke, but was upstaged by a fat bloke called Barry doing Rage Against The Machine.
The Maiden took merchandising to a new level with a branded backstage area.
Also worth a mention are Elbow - Nicest Men In Pop ™, Block Party - carried it off by being really chuffed to be headlining the NME stage and Fourtet - good but a miserable sod.
And good on the Workers Beer Company (they run the bars) for giving all their tips to the Gate Gourmet workers hardship fund.
