Letter to Kate Hoey
Written on June 1, 2005
Dear Kate Hoey,
Firstly, congratulations on your re-election.
I am writing to you because you do not have a personal website or blog
to keep your constituents informed of your work.
To try and rectify this I and some other of your constituents have
setup a proxy website (www.katehoey.co.uk) which we have been updating
since the election, based on newspaper stories and your parliamentary
speeches.
We believe that websites and blogs are an important way for MPs to stay
in touch with their constituents - you get to tell us what your’re up
to, and we find out more about what is being done in our name. I, like
you, was greatly worried by the low turnout in Lambeth for the last
election, and it seems to me that engaging people directly using the
web is an ideal way to improve turnout and counter the general apathy
people display towards Westminster politics.
As such I would like to offer you this website. The only proviso is
that you undertake to update it once in a while. We will even continue
to pay for the hosting of the site if needs be.
Please get intouch if you would like to discuss this,
Yours sincerely,
Richard Pope
